Obituary of Lawrence Berkholtz

Lawrence Edward Berkholtz, 85, Port Edwards, died Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Riverview Medical Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Services will be at 1:00 pm on Monday, December 31st at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home. Rev. Timothy Wenger will officiate. Burial will be in the Arpin Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of the service on Monday at the funeral home. Lawrence was born in Wisconsin Rapids on June 26, 1927 to Edward and Alma (Meitner) Berkholtz. He married Irene Mary Hoeneveld on August 13, 1948 in Wood County. She died on January 11, 2000. Lawrence was employed for several years as a tow motor operator for Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company in the Port Edwards Mill until his retirement. He served his country in the Army. Lawrence loved his peers at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home and always helped them however he could. He had a good sense of humor and quick wit and enjoyed playing tricks on the nurses and others. In his younger years, Lawrence enjoyed sewing, hunting, fishing, and eating the wild game he captured. He also loved to dance and go on trips with his wife. Survivors include five daughters: Candace Czaikowski (Roger Bray), Wisconsin Rapids; Gloria (Glen) Wanta, Plover; Carol (Delbert) Dearth, Wisconsin Rapids; Debra Wildish, Watertown; Diane (Chris) Reinwand, Custer; three sons: Dennis (Lucy) Berkholtz, Milladore; Randolph (Irene) Berkholtz, Wisconsin Rapids; David Berkholtz, Wisconsin Rapids; 21 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Edna (Joseph) Omernick, Stevens Point; Elaine Rosplock, Vesper; one brother: Donald (Viola) Berkholtz, Wisconsin Rapids; aunt and special friend: Christie Steltenpohl, Stevens Point. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and brother-in-law, George Rosplock.
