Obituary of Darrell Overturf

Darrell O. Overturf, 82, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, at Ministry Saint Joseph?s Hospital in Marshfield. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Thursday, January 3rd, at the Wisconsin Rapids Moravian Church. Rev. Mary Lou Plummer will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon until the time of services on Thursday at the church. Darrell was born February 20, 1930 in New Rome, Adams County, Wisconsin to Darrell and Clara (Fairbert) Overturf. He graduated from Rudolph High School in 1948. He served his country in the United States Army from 1948 to 1951, spending two years in Japan and one year in Korea and attaining the rank of master sergeant. When he returned home from the service, he married his high school sweetheart, Doris Richard, on December 27, 1951. The couple was blessed with 61 years of marriage. Darrell was employed by Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company in the Port Edwards mill as a machinist and retired in 1990 as a supervisor. Darrell was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who was always there for his family. He could fix just about anything and enjoyed woodworking, crafting gifts for his family like jewelry boxes and doll houses. He enjoyed summer vacations with the family to Women?s Lake Lodge in Minnesota where they enjoyed waterskiing and fishing. In retirement, Darrell and Doris liked to take trips to Branson and visited almost all of the states in the US. Darrell is survived by his wife, Doris; two children: Kevin (Lorraine) Overturf of Barnes and Jeri Schmitz of Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren: Doug (Stacy) Overturf of Wisconsin Rapids, Heather Schmitz and Holly Schmitz of Appleton, and Nathan (Lynelle) Overturf of Port Edwards; five great-grandchildren: Morgan, Ashlyn, Brendan, Aiden, and Abigail; two sisters: June Scianna of Chicago, and Beulah Pych of Indiana; and one brother, Harvey (Helen) Overturf of Eagle River. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ken and Wayne Overturf, two sisters, Gladys Walcott and Irene Smazal, and a great-granddaughter, Emma. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family.
