Obituary of Ruth Lovering
Ruth J. Lovering, 98, of Wisconsin Rapids, widow of Warren N. Lovering, O.D., died early Wednesday, January 16, 2013 from complications of influenza at Riverview Medical Center, Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Ruth was born in Bangor, Maine on June 18, 1914, the daughter of William S. and Victoria (Pilkey) McKinnon. In late 2002, she moved to Wisconsin Rapids, the home of her daughter Victoria and son-in-law David Henke. She attended Bangor Schools, graduating from Bangor High School in 1931 and the Maine School of Commerce (now Husson College) in 1933.
Ruth taught two summer courses in shorthand and typing under Franklin D. Roosevelt?s ERA program to help needy girls obtain jobs. From 1955-1971 she was employed as a secretary at Dow Air Force Base in Bangor. When the base closed, she worked for the Soil Conservation Service USDA, as a secretary, retiring in 1979.
Ruth was a past member of the YMCA and an active member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Bangor Chapter 0485.
Ruth is survived by her daughter, Victoria (David) Henke of Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Harriet (Arthur) Tilley Sr. of Bangor; three nephews and their families; one sister-in-law, Beverly McKinnon, widow of Donald W. McKinnon; one niece and her family. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, sister and a nephew.
There will be no service or visitation at her request. Funeral arrangements will be handled by Herman-Taylor Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Wisconsin Rapids and Foley Funeral Home of Bangor.
