Obituary of Naomi Jacobson

Naomi Faith Jacobson, 79, of Rudolph, passed away peacefully on February 13, 2013. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 18, 2013, at Woodlands Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Pastor Brian Berg will officiate, with memories also offered by old family friends, Rev. Lynn Schreck of Gays Mills and Pastor Bruce Bartel of Onalaska. Visitation will be on Sunday from 3:00 PM-6:00 PM at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center and on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of services at the church. Naomi Faith Westfall was born in Wisconsin Rapids on September 16, 1933, the third of four children of Fred and Bertha (Brackmann) Westfall. She was raised on the family farm in Rudolph and graduated from Rudolph High School in 1951. Naomi married Lyle Jacobson on May 1, 1952 at the United Methodist Church in Wisconsin Rapids. The couple was blessed with 60 devoted years together. Naomi worked for Rapids Distributing Company in Plover for several years. In 1973, she became actively involved in what was to become the successful opposition to and building of a nuclear power plant near Rudolph through educating and raising public awareness. This was largely accomplished through the organization called League Against Nuclear Dangers (LAND) which she served as co-chairperson. This organization consumed her energies for many years until its disbanding. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling with her husband. Over the years, they toured most of the United States including extensive trips to Canada and Alaska. Naomi was talented at crocheting and in her later years she developed a passion for rag rug making. One of her greatest joys was giving her handiwork away to bless others. Naomi is survived by her husband, B. Lyle of Rudolph; daughters: Judy (Steve) Twigley of Helendale, California and Jane (David) Dumke of Rudolph; son, Dan (Lori) Jacobson of Anderson, South Carolina; grandchildren: Jordan, Mark, and Kate Dumke and Brett Twigley; brother, Bradley (Gloria) Westfall of Rudolph; and sisters: Marilyn Matthews and Zelda Guzman of Wisconsin Rapids; as well as other family and many dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother-in-laws, Gerald Matthews and Richard Guzman. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Woodlands Church. All undesignated funds will be given to cancer research.
