Obituary of Verna Kester

Verna Kester, 98, of Wisconsin Rapids died June 6, 2013 at her home. Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday, June 12th at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Rev. Mary Lou Plummer will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. Verna was born February 15, 1915 in Unity, Wisconsin to John and Edith (Ringquist) Schjoneman. She graduated from Unity High School and then attended the Marathon County Normal School in Wausau, Wisconsin for one year. Then she attended the School of Cosmetology in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. After graduation Verna worked in beauty shops in Westby and Marshfield, Wisconsin before coming to Wisconsin Rapids to work at the La Grande Beauty Shop. Verna married Robert J. Kester on September 9, 1943 in Wisconsin Rapids. She was a member of the Wisconsin Rapids Moravian Church. She taught vacation church school and was active in the Women?s Fellowship of the church. Survivors include one son, Thomas (Barbara) of Lake Tomahawk; one daughter, Linda Burke of Wisconsin Rapids; one grandson Andrew (Jen) Kester of Parker, Colorado and two great-grandsons, Ben and Joseph Kester of Colorado and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; her parents; two brothers, Ernest and Gordon and two sisters, Hazel Witte and Norma Liebelt. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed in Verna?s name to the UW Cancer Center Riverview (410 Dewey St., Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494).
