Obituary of Frederick Zimmerman
Frederick Herbert Zimmerman, 94, of the Portage County Town of Grant, died Monday morning, June 17, 2013 at Arborwood Lodge Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 20th at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday , also at the church.
Fred was born July 1, 1918 in the Portage County Town of Grant to Friedrich and Albertina (Steinhaus) Zimmerman. He married Dorothy Westfall on September 18, 1954 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. The couple was blessed with 58 years of marriage.
Fred was employed by Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company in the finishing room at the Port Edwards Mill until his retirement.
He enjoyed woodworking, farming, and crafting bird houses and wood scale models and watching blue birds. Fred liked old tractors and steam and gas engine shows. He was a classic car enthusiast and enjoyed attending the Iola Car Show. Fred was a lifelong member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner.
Fred is survived by his wife, Dorothy Zimmerman of Wisconsin Rapids; 9 children: Mitchell (Shirley) Zimmerman, Dennis (Vicky) Zimmerman, Steve (Sheila) Zimmerman, Pam (Kenyon) Rosenthal, Melanie (Todd) Peterson, Karen (Tim) Sorenson, Jeff (Michelle) Zimmerman, Debra (Mike) Kukler, and Scott Zimmerman, all of Wisconsin Rapids; 22 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-niece, Jill Zimmerman of Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Albertina Zimmerman, a brother, Leonard Zimmerman, and 4 sisters: Edith Radomski, Agnes Saeger, Leona Hansen, and Emma Woltman.
Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family with arrangements.
Memorials may be designated to St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner.
