Obituary of Arvin L. Kleinschmidt
Arvin L. Kleinschmidt, age 85, of Wisconsin Rapids, died Monday, June 27, 2016 at Theda Care Medical Center in Waupaca, WI.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Timothy Wenger will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post 9. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Wednesday at St. Luke's.
Arvin was born December 9, 1930 in Marshfield, WI to Arthur and Cleo (Godard) Kleinschmidt. He married Mildred J. TerMaat on September 18, 1954 in Wisconsin Rapids. They were blessed with 58 years of marriage, until her passing in 2012.
Arvin was a faithful member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where he served with the Veterans of the Cross. Arvin was a long-time member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. He volunteered with the Orphan Grain Train and with Peace Campus Center at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
In his early years, Arvin enjoyed fishing, hunting, and woodworking. He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion Post 9. Arvin attended the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. in 2014. He worked at Consolidated Paper as a die maker until his retirement. Arvin was a very social and outgoing person, who enjoyed being around others. Known for his story telling, Arvin seemed to have a story for every occasion.
Arvin is survived by his five children: Keith Kleinschmidt of Austin, TX; Bonny (William) Parker of Maple Grove, MN; Roma (Dave) McClyman of Stevens Point, WI; Cydelle Yager of Winston Salem, NC and Ellen Kleinschmidt (Carl Recksiedler) of Bloomington, MN; seven grandchildren: Brynn (Seth) Frei, Everett Parker, Jennifer Konkol, Denise Konkol, Kira Yager, Amanda Yager, and CJ Yager; five great-grandchildren: Chase Gayer, Payton Konkol, Landen Larson, Kaylee Testerman, and Emmitt Larson and a sister, LaVada Babicky.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Cleo Kleinschmidt; wife, Mildred and sister, Elaine Todd.
