Obituary of Reuben Follendorf

Reuben Frederick Follendorf, 91, Wisconsin Rapids, died Sunday, July 28, 2013 at the Wisconsin Rapids Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. Services will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at St. Paul?s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. James Douglas will officiate. Entombment will be in Hillside Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Marshfield. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 31st at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Wisconsin Rapids and from 12:30 p.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the church. Reuben was born in Marshfield on January 14, 1922, to Frederick and Lily (Springborn) Follendorf. He was baptized on February 26, 1922, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Marshfield and was confirmed on March 25, 1934, at Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield. He graduated from Marshfield High School in 1940. Reuben married Violet Schubert on September 19, 1948, at Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield. He served his country during World War II with the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 in Africa and Italy. Reuben was employed at Consumer?s Store in Marshfield before and after service in the Army, followed by the A & P Store in Marshfield and transferred to the A & P Store in Wisconsin Rapids in 1953 for 18 years, and then the Super Value Store in Wisconsin Rapids for 10 years. He then worked for the Wisconsin Rapids School District for 8 years. He retired on January 14, 1984. He was a member of St. Paul?s Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council from 1954 to 1957. He also was a member of the Lowell Senior Center Association and served on its Board of Directors from 1989 to 1995 and was President from 1991 to 1992. Survivors include one son: Jeffrey (Sharon) Follendorf of Columbus, Indiana; two daughters: Christine Gregory of Camano Island, Washington, and Catherine (Kevin) Kleckner of Neillsville, WI; seven grandchildren: Bryan Follendorf, Michael Follendorf, Curt (Nikki) Schaffer, Tina (Ryan) Yotter, Tabitha (Mike) Thomas, Tonya (Justin) Monness and Nathaniel Kleckner; eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Violet, and one sister, Ruth Follendorf.
