Obituary of Barbara Spencer

Barbara Jean Spencer, 80, of Wisconsin Rapids, died early Monday morning, September 2, 2013 at Renaissance Assisted Living in Wisconsin Rapids. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 7th at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. John Grohs and Rev. Timothy Ritter will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Friday at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10:00 A.M. on Saturday until the time of services at the church. Barbara was born in Wisconsin Rapids on November 19, 1932 to Gustave and Nora (Paterick) Kurz. She married Allen Spencer on March 31, 1951 in Wisconsin Rapids. She worked as a secretary for Don Sprise at the Wisconsin Rapids Vocational School and later worked for Emmons Office Products. Barbara then got her realtors license and worked as a real estate agent for Seegert Realty and later Coldwell Banker Siewert Realtors. Barbara was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and Wisconsin Rapids Elks Lodge #693 Ladies Elks. Barbara?s passion was her family. She was very involved in attending her children?s activities and sporting events when they were in school and enjoyed taking her grandchildren back-to-school shopping. Barbara was a Green Bay Packer and baseball fan. She always looked forward to playing cribbage, golf and Bunko with the ladies. She loved the time that her and Allen were able to spend at their retirement home on the river watching the ducks and geese and the many winters they were able to spend in Mercedes, Texas. Survivors include: one daughter: Terry (Robert) Lee, Wisconsin Rapids; two sons: Gary (Kristen) Spencer, Wisconsin Rapids; Greg (Shelley) Spencer, Peoria, IL; seven grandchildren: Christopher Lee (fiancé Linda Huennekens), Madison, WI; Andrea (Bobby) Dell, Huntersville, NC; Stacey (Tony) Van Der Wielen, DeForest, WI; Rebecca (Chad) LaBarge, Portage,WI; Ryan Spencer, Wisconsin Rapids; and Drew and Nate Spencer, Peoria, IL; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law: Charles (Fran) Spencer, Winona, MN, and Donald Knuth of Wisconsin Rapids; three sisters-in-law: Lois (Arthur) Gazeley, Wisconsin Rapids, Monique Kurz, Corpus Christi, TX and Yolanda Kurz, Silver Springs, Maryland; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Allen, and her siblings: Marie Everett, Harold Kurz, Bob Kurz, Dick Kurz, Jim Kurz, Lois Knuth, Karen Hammel, and David Kurz. Barbara?s family will be establishing a memorial in her name at a later date.
