Obituary of Robert Leder

Robert A. ?Slug? Leder, age 91, died on September 10th at Whispering Pines Assisted Living in Plover, WI where he had resided for the past four years. Funeral services will be held at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2201 Chestnut St., in Wisconsin Rapids at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, September 13th with Pastor Tom Peterson of St. Paul Lutheran Church of Stevens Point officiating. There will be visitation from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery. Bob was born on November 7, 1921 in Mayville, Wisconsin to Albert and Selma (Fuehrman) Leder. As a child, Bob and his family moved to Nekoosa, WI and later to Wisconsin Rapids where Bob lived until moving north to Arbor Vitae after his retirement. In 2003 he moved back to Central Wisconsin to be near his family. On March 4, 1944 Bob married Nila Scheunemann in Wisconsin Rapids. They were blessed with 69 years of marriage. Bob?s entire 41 year career was spent at Consolidated Papers, with the bulk of those years at the Kraft Division. Throughout his life he enjoyed hunting and fishing and passed those outdoor skills onto his son. For many years Bob and Nila would spend winter months in various parts of the south. A very proud moment of his life was taking the doubles championship in tennis in his senior year of high school in the Wisconsin Valley Doubles event. It wouldn?t seem right to not mention that Bob was an avid Packer fan to the end. Bob is survived by his wife, Nila, a son, Peter (Linda) Leder of Junction City; three grandchildren: Wendy (Paul) Schlaefer of WI. Rapids; Chad (Katy) Leder of Appleton; and Dustin (Alina) Leder of Appleton; six great-grandchildren: Kelly, Erin, Judd, and Jonathan (JT) Schlaefer, and Nathan and Matthew Leder; sister, Mildred (David) Etheridge of Green Bay; sister-in-law, Donna Scheunemann of Wisconsin Rapids; and his nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Lorraine Schmidt. Even though Bob had some physical mobility limitations that he had since birth, he loved the great outdoors. Because of this, a memorial fund has been set up to aid in a local program established to take the handicapped and disabled hunting, namely disabled or critically ill youth and veterans. This memorial will be to support the USSA (The United Special Sportsmen Alliance). The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to Ministry Health where every person on staff treated Bob with care and dignity. Many thanks to the Hospice team who helped them all transition these past few weeks. And, they cannot thank the staff at Whispering Pines enough for the four plus years they made Bob feel at home in his new surroundings, and for the concern, tenderness, and comfort they showed him as he failed. Besides Bob, they treated all of his family members like their family and they couldn?t have picked a better facility than Whispering Pines! God?s blessings to all of you!
