Obituary of Verna M. Hager
Verna Maxine Hager, age 85, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at Strawberry Lane Medical and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Timothy Wenger will officiate. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at St. Luke's.
Verna was born January 24, 1931 in Bancroft, WI to Mac and Dora (Sparks) Scanlan. She was introduced to her future husband by his sister. Verna married LeRoy Hager on February 7, 1949 in Wisconsin Rapids. They were blessed with 67 years of happiness.
She was a faithful member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where she participated in the Elizabeth Group. Verna and LeRoy enjoyed square dancing throughout their life together. Verna especially enjoyed ceramics, stamp collecting, and creating homemade greeting cards. She was well-known for her rum cake. The family travelled to many places: England, much of the United States, and the 1967 World's Fair in Canada. Verna was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great great-grandmother. She is truly loved and will be deeply missed.
Verna is survived by her husband, LeRoy; children: Edward (Jody) Hager, Charlotte (Ronald) Clark, and Jeanne Hager; grandchildren: Laura Reichert, Brenda Trierweiler, Brian Hager, Corbin Kelnhofer, Jennifer Kostuchowski, Heidi Vicente, Casey Clark, Julie Hafermann, and Christopher Roginski; 15 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, with one more on the way; a brother, Leland Scanlan and a sister, Elenore Cheatle of Hoquiam, WA.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Mac and Dora Scanlan; a sister, a brother-in-law, a sister-in-law, and a great great-granddaughter.
Verna's family would like to express their gratitude to all of the staff at Strawberry Lane Nursing Home and Aspirus Hospice for all of the warmth and care that they gave to her during her stay.
