Obituary of Venita Kappel
Venita H. Kappel, age 98, of Wisconsin Rapids, died Friday, October 11, 2013 at Wisconsin Rapids Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards. Rev. Daniel Bohn will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Wausau. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Wednesday at the church.
Venita was born in Appleton, Wisconsin on January 12, 1915 to Richard and Molly Hildebrandt. She married Louie John Wilhorn in 1938 at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. He preceded her in death in 1955. She married Ben (Pete) Kappel in 1958 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards. He preceded her in death in 1984.
Venita was a longtime active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards and its Ladies Aid and Altar Guild. She was also a member of Port Edwards Homemakers and the Senior Citizens club in Wisconsin Rapids. Venita loved crocheting, knitting, and needlepoint as well as doing a variety of different crafts. Many of the things she made were shared as gifts for family and friends. Venita enjoyed bowling and traveling, and was able to take several bus trips to different parts of the country. She was also an avid Packer and Brewers fan.
Venita is survived by two children: Barbara Lieber and Ivan R. (Jackie) Wilhorn and daughter-in-law, Susie Wilhorn, all of Wisconsin Rapids; five grandchildren: Roger (Sara) Wilhorn of Nekoosa, Rebecca Lieber of Vermont, Kimberly (Rick) Koplien of Nekoosa, Kathleen (Tim) Brill of Wisconsin Rapids, Brian R. (Jennifer) Wilhorn of Vesper; twelve great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters: Faye (Kurt) Kohnhorst of Sonoma, CA, and Virgine (Don) Mattice of Wausau; and one brother, Marland (Shirley) Hildebrandt of Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her parents, son George Wilhorn, brother Val Hildebrandt, sister Percy Clauss, sister Shirley Combs, and sister Lucille Winterstein.
Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center is assisting the family.
A memorial will be established at a later date.
