Obituary of Patricia Berklund

Patricia Ann Berklund, age 90, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away October 16, 2013 at Strawberry Lane Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 19, 2013 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Burial will be in the Port Edwards Municipal Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. Pat was born April 13, 1923 in Sioux City, Iowa to Thomas and Nell (Schmoker) Paul. She was married August 24, 1947 to Bruno L. Berklund. Pat attended University of Iowa and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and later a Masters degree in Library Science from UW Stevens Point. Her career started as a social worker in Sioux City, Iowa and then later in Chicago, IL. After the war, Pat became active in the Girl Scouts Organization as Executive Director of Girl Scouts of the Northwestern Great Lakes. With her love of books and reading and with her family grown, Pat became a Librarian at McMillan Memorial Library in Wisconsin Rapids. She later became the Librarian for the Port Edwards School District. Pat loved to read and always had several books going and another on her Kindle. She was a member of the Port Edwards United Methodist Church, Woodlands Girl Scout Council, and the Margaret Fuller Book Club. Pat is survived by her son: Thomas (Susan) Berklund, Biron, WI; son-in-law: William Frank, Oshkosh, WI; grandchildren: Abigail (Ron) Perrot, College Station, TX, Elizabeth (Jeff) Mertens, Berlin, WI, Angela Frank, Appleton, WI, Joseph Berklund, Miami, FL, and Tom Berklund, New York, NY; and a great grandson, Christian Belgram, College Station, TX. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bruno L. Berklund, her daughter, Lauri Berklund Frank and grandson, Billy Frank. The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the wonderful staff at Strawberry Lane who cared for Pat during her final days.
