Obituary of William A. VerVoort
William A. VerVoort passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 10, 2016 at the Aspirus Hospital in Wausau, after a short illness. He was surrounded by his devoted wife and loving family.
Services will be 11:30 AM on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate. Visitation will be held on Wednesday at the church from 9:00 AM until the time of services.
Bill was born on January 17, 1935 in Wisconsin Rapids to Fred and Beulah (Murray) VerVoort. He graduated from John Edwards High School where he was very active in music and sports. Bill started playing trumpet in a dance band at the age of 16. Following high school, he attended Business College in Minneapolis, MN and also served in the U.S Army. On October 13, 1962, Bill wed Lois Peterson. They have one daughter, Ann VerVoort Roquet of Sun Prairie, WI.
Bill worked for the Milwaukee Road as a depot agent for several years before entering the corrugated business first at Paperboard Products and then at Castle Rock Container Company. Bill retired in 1995 as the general sales manager. After his retirement, Bill enjoyed many years of golfing, traveling (by car or train but not airplane) and attending his grandchildren's activities. Papa never missed a soccer game, football game, track meet or concert. He was dubbed #1 fan. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends. Bill was a fun-loving gentleman who loved and valued his family and friends.
In addition to his wife Lois, he is survived by his daughter Ann (Russ) Roquet, two special grandchildren: Riley and Ally Roquet. He is further survived by his brother Lawrence (Katie) VerVoort, sister-in-law Judy (John) Steinke and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Yvonne Waters, Wilma Bury and Betty Tracey.
Memorials may be made in Bill's name to St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner or to Camp Luther.
Bill will be dearly missed by his wife, family and a great many friends.
