Obituary of Charles Coryell

Charles Desmond Coryell, age 97, of Wisconsin Rapids (formerly of Centerville, Indiana and Rhinelander, Wisconsin), died early Saturday morning, December 14, 2013 at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards. Charles was born October 4, 1916 in Richmond, Indiana to O. Demp and Effie (Stewart) Coryell. He married Ruth Ellen Frauman on May 9, 1943. The couple was blessed with 39 years of marriage and three children. Ruth preceded him in death in 1982. Charles then married Zada Smith in 1983. The couple enjoyed 10 years of marriage prior to her death in 1993. On November 6, 2004, Charles was united in marriage to Dorothy Johnson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Sigel. He served his country in the United States Army stateside during World War II and was given honorable discharge due to a medical issue. Charles worked as a watch repairman and maker for 15 years and then worked as a tool and die maker for the Perfect Circle Piston Ring Company in Indiana. Charles then accepted a position with Twist Drill Company in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, where he retired to his cabin on the lake to enjoy fishing with family. Charles was an avid Packer fan who enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends playing cards and reminiscing. He enjoyed spending time in the outdoors going for walks and tending to his garden. In earlier years, he enjoyed roller skating and dancing. Charles was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rhinelander where he served on the Board of Property and also served as a greeter. He was later a very faithful member of Bethany Lutheran Church in the Town of Sigel and would rarely miss a Sunday. Charles was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and AARP and was very active at the Centralia Center in Wisconsin Rapids and its creative writing group. Charles is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Wisconsin Rapids; three children: Debby (John) Brown of Wisconsin Rapids, Neal K. Coryell of Columbus, Ohio, and Denise (Loren) Larson of Wisconsin Rapids; two step-children: Marilyn Wunrow (Jim Goodness) of Wisconsin Rapids and Cleve (Shirley) Johnson Jr. of Janesville; four grandchildren: Steven, Jerry, Brenda and Jennifer; four step-grandchildren: Brittany, Theresa, Dale, Gene, Terry, and Tracy; three great-grandchildren: Trenay, Mason, and Owen; three step-great-grandchildren: Noah, Rachel, and Colton; and a niece, Esther Good of Harrisonburg, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents, wives Ruth and Zada, and a sister, Edith Binkley. Visitation will be at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2201 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids, from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 17th. Graveside services will be at 12:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Northland Memorial Park in Rhinelander. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday at Bethany Lutheran Church, 6900 Swedish Road, Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Joyce Heintz will officiate. Memorials may be designated to Bethany Lutheran Church or to Disabled American Veterans.
