There will also be a visitation at the funeral home on Saturday, December 21st from 8:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. followed by a brief prayer service and committal at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be held this spring at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Mildred was born in Divine Rapids, WI (Price County) on November 1, 1921. She was one of six children of Frank and Katherine Huber. As a young adult, during World War II, she lived and worked in Milwaukee, Chicago, and Dayton, OH. Following the war, Mildred married Willard Martin in Park Falls, WI in 1945. They lived for several years in Milwaukee and moved to Wisconsin Rapids in 1951. Mildred never had the opportunity or financial means to go to college, but she more than made up for that through her lifelong pursuit of adult education in countless subject areas including family economics, real estate, creative writing, psychology, art, foreign languages, and first aid. She was a graduate of the first EMT class held in Wisconsin in 1973. Mildred held a variety of jobs throughout her life, including seasonally sorting cranberries and canning vegetables, selling Avon products, sewing and assembling garments at a local clothing manufacturer, and serving as Executive Secretary of the South Wood County Red Cross. She retired as an administrative assistant at Mid-State Technical College in 1985. In addition to raising a family and being a homemaker, Mildred was a member and volunteer at Immanuel Lutheran Church, a Vacation Bible School teacher, Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader, Legion Auxiliary member, 4-H leader, active in Toastmasters Club, Sweet Adelines, garden and writing clubs, a poll worker, and involved in countless other activities. Mildred loved traveling in retirement. She and her husband were able to visit all 50 states, Mexico, Canada and Europe. She enjoyed sewing and proudly hand stitched more than a dozen beautiful quilts for her children, grandchildren and others. Mildred will be remembered for her lifelong accomplishments in adult education and self-improvement, her community involvement and volunteerism, and her tireless, loving devotion to family and friends. Mildred is survived by three children: Barbara (William) Cammack of Egg Harbor, WI and The Villages, FL, Wayne (Anne) Martin of Plymouth, MN, and Dennis (Mary ?Casey?) Martin of Wisconsin Rapids; four granddaughters: Heather and Holly Cammack and Kelly and Katie Martin; a brother, Antone (Tatty) Huber of North Bend, OR; sisters-in-law: Norma Erickson and Georgeen Pierre; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Willard Martin in 1997; brothers: George, Charles, and Frank; and sister, Martha.
