Obituary of Frederick Miller
Frederick Carl Miller Jr., age 79, Town of Sherry, died Monday morning, December 23, 2013 at his home.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, December 28th at St. James Catholic Church in Vesper. Father Robert Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in the Town of Sherry. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, December 27th at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Wisconsin Rapids and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.
Fred was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI on February 28, 1934 to Frederick Carl and Anna (Iverson) Miller Sr. He graduated from Lincoln High School in 1952. Fred married Margaret Osterkil on November 7, 1959 in Port Edwards, WI. She died on September 10, 2008.
Fred worked briefly for JC Penney?s in Wisconsin Rapids. In 1953, Fred joined his uncle in operating the dairy farm founded by his grandfather. In 1980 Fred and Margaret inherited the farm which he continued to farm until his death.
Fred served his community as president of Wood County Crime Stoppers, treasurer of the Town of Sherry recycling committee, Sherry Tired Iron Tractor Club, former supervisor and chairman of the Town of Sherry and served on the board of directors of Harmony Country Cooperative and also served on the board of directors for many other agricultural organizations.
He had a love for antique tractors, driving his favorite red tractors in many local parades. Fred enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, farming, and golfing. He also enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers.
Survivors include: three children: Robert (Maria) Miller; Fritz Miller (special friend, Penny); and Margie (Randy) Dorshorst, all of the Town of Sherry ; eight grandchildren: Mike Miller, Nicole (Matt) Keuffer, Jordy (Shalee) Parker, Rory (Lexi) Parker, Jacob, Ben and Hannah Dorshorst, and Steve Miller; six great-grandchildren: McKayla and McKenzie Keuffer, Paydin, Axel and Tayvyn Parker, and Zerek Miller; one brother: William (Audrey) Miller, Wausau; and sister-in-law: Mabel Miller, Wis. Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jim, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert (Mavis) Osterkil.
A memorial will be established in Fred?s name by his family at a later date.
