Obituary of Elaine Helen Davis

Elaine Helen Davis, age 91, of the Town of Saratoga, died Thursday morning, July 21, 2016 at her residence. Funeral services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, July 29, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in the Town of Saratoga. Pastor Paul Tullberg will officiate. Burial will take place in St. John's Lutheran Church Parish Cemetery in the Town of Grant. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Thursday, July 28, 2016 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and on Friday, July 29, 2016 from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Online condolences may be expressed at www.taylorfuneralhome.net. Elaine Helen (Wittenberg) Davis was born January 24, 1925 in Wisconsin Rapids to Alfred E. and Clara A. (Meinberg) Wittenberg. She married Russell E. Davis on June 28, 1947 in Wisconsin Rapids. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1942 and was employed Water Works & Lighting Commission and Consolidated Papers, holding various positions. Elaine was an active and faithful member of the churches she attended: St. Paul's Lutheran in Wisconsin Rapids, Divine Word Lutheran in Plover, and Good Shepherd Lutheran in Saratoga. She was a member of each church's choir. She was a selection to the first Badger Girl's State games in 1941 and was a member of the Assembly. Elaine was an accomplished golfer and bowler for most of her life. She golfed well into her 80's and was very competitive, especially with her sons and grandchildren. She finally let them beat her later in life (letting them use a few mulligans). Elaine loved to play cards and go to lunch with her ladies groups. She had her hair done at Sheri's Beauty Shop every Friday morning. Elaine also loved to go to the casino with her grandson and have lunch, maybe including a Bloody Mary. Elaine and Russ traveled the United States in their mobile home after retirement, until they found their permanent winter home in Arizona City, Arizona. Survivors include her four sons: Ronald R. (Etsuko) Davis of Tucson, AZ, Douglas K. (Faye) Davis of Mosinee, WI, Paul S. (Lynn) Davis of Wisconsin Rapids, and Tim (Patty) Davis of Spring Green, WI; eight grandchildren: Cheri and Jay Scott Davis of Tucson, AZ, Clare Davis of Oakland, CA, Halley Davis of Los Angeles, CA, Cassie Davis of Minneapolis, MN, Whitney Davis of Mosinee, WI, Scotty Davis of Wisconsin Rapids, and Bradley (Shena) Davis of Stevens Point; step-grandchildren: Elizabeth Norton of London and Charlie Norton of Bend, OR; sister, Betty Prebbanow of Idaho; and sister-in-law, Marion Bailey. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, Russ; parents, Alfred and Clara Wittenberg; brother-in-law, Donald Prebbanow; along with sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Robert Kurtz. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and member of the community.
