Obituary of Neil L. Knoll

Neil L. Knoll, age 88, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away March 5, 2014 at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle of ALS. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, March 10th at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate. Burial will be in St. John Parish Cemetery in the Town of Grant. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 9th from 4 P.M. to 8 P.M. at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Monday at the church. Neil was born in Wisconsin Rapids, WI on April 7, 1925 to Carl and Elnora (Rickman) Knoll. He married Arlene Saeger on August 25, 1956. They have enjoyed 57 busy years together. Neil worked for Consolidated Papers, Inc. in the wood room for 42 years, retiring in April of 1989. Before starting at Consolidated, Neil did some farming and worked for two years at Preway, Inc. making stoves. He also worked for the Town of Grant painting bridges, brushing roads, and patching blacktop. At the time of his illness he was working for the Town of Grant Recycling Center. Neil was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, especially for deer and coyotes, and fishing for muskies in Hayward, WI. He was a people person, and loved to tell his fishing and hunting stories to anyone who would lend a listening ear. Neil also loved helping others and was always there when called upon. Survivors include his beloved wife Arlene; one son: Jeff; one daughter: Becky (Steve Sheehy) Dove; two grandchildren: Alex and Brooke Dove; in-laws: Duaine and Nancy Saeger; Bev and Jere Kirst; and Sandy Primeau; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elnora Knoll; mother and father-in-law, Arthur and Agnes Saeger; sister Myrtle Knuteson; brother Howard Knoll; brothers-in-law, Kenneth Knuteson and Ronald Primeau. Memorials may be designated to St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice Care for all the help and care they provided for Neil.
