Obituary of David Charles Saeger
David Charles Saeger, age 80, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Monday evening, July 25, 2016 surrounded by his loving family at the Wisconsin Veterans Home at King in Waupaca.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 5, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Jonathan Petzold will officiate. Burial will be at Port Edwards Municipal Cemetery with military honors rendered by American Legion Post 9. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services on Friday at the church. David was born December 9, 1935 in Wisconsin Rapids to Paul and Ruth (Saeger) Paulson. As an infant David was adopted by his maternal grandmother Louise Saeger and raised by Alfred and Esther Orth. He attended school in Port Edwards and graduated from John Edwards High School. David proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954 to 1956 during the Korean War. He was employed as a carpenter/builder in the Wisconsin Rapids area until his retirement. He was previously married to Lucille Styka. David later married Carol McCammond in September of 1988 in Wisconsin Rapids; she passed away on December 15, 2012.
David was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. He was a charter member and past president of the Port Edwards Lions Club, a member of American Legion Post 9 and a member of Wisconsin Rapids Elks Lodge #693. David was an outdoorsman who loved spending time in his deer hunting stand, going on duck hunting trips and fishing for walleye in the spring. He was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers and Wisconsin Badgers. David enjoyed going to the casino with his friends.
David is survived by three children: Kathy Kies, Glenn (Lynn) Saeger, and Chad Dove; grandchildren: Lisa Saeger (fiancée Wes Zube), Philip Saeger, and Kenneth Kies; great-granddaughter Cleondra Zube; step-son Michael (Liz) Carter; three step-daughters: Cathryn (Mike) Laszinski, Karen (Mark) Williams, and Colleen (Scott) Seemann; eight step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren. He is further survived by his life-long friend Larry Keyzer and special friends Jean Cook, Kevin Bremmer and Marlene Trzinski. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Carol, grandmother Louise Saeger as well as his aunt and uncle Alfred and Esther Orth.
