Obituary of Dale Vern DeBoer

Dale V. DeBoer, age 83, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away late Sunday evening, March 9, 2014 at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, March 15th at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Paul Tonn will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Burial will be at a later date in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Dale was born September 21, 1930 in Auburndale, WI to Epa and Flora (Rolsma) DeBoer. He graduated from Auburndale High School in 1948. On May 17, 1952 he was united in marriage to Beverly Ann Bauer at St. John's Lutheran Church in Auburndale. Dale served his country in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1952 as a senior aircraft mechanic. He was employed as a project auditor at Consolidated Papers Inc. until his retirement in 1993. Dale was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and pheasant hunting in South Dakota. He was a sports fan who played basketball during his high school days at Auburndale and also coached Little League baseball. In later years, Dale continued following regional high school basketball and also liked to watch the March Madness college basketball tournament games. Dale was an active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church where he served on church council as chairman and treasurer, was on the Board of Elders, was a member of Veterans of the Cross, and served as a Sunday school superintendent. Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Beverly; three children: Steven (Diane Joy) DeBoer of Whitewater, WI, Sara (Allen) Decker of Eagle River, WI, and Shawn (Amy) DeBoer of Sun Prairie, WI; five grandchildren: Nathan (Amanda) Smolarek, Amanda DeBoer, Daniel DeBoer, Paige Decker, and Claire Decker; two great-grandchildren: Kailey and Carter Smolarek; and a sister-in-law, Iris DeBoer. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers: Lester (Eldrey), Arlen, and Royce (Joyce) and sister, Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to St. Luke's Lutheran Church.
