Obituary of Lawrence L. Bendickson
Lawrence L. "Sluggo" Bendickson, age 79, Town of Sigel, Wisconsin Rapids, died Sunday, March 16, 2014 at Ministry Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.
Services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, March 21st at Bethany Lutheran Church in the Town of Sigel. Rev. Joyce Heintz will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Friday at the church.
Larry was born in the Town of Green Valley, Marathon County, WI on April 3, 1934 to Charles and Lillie (Hamus) Bendickson. He married Carol Harger on June 18, 1960 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Sherry.
Larry owned and operated Bendickson's Standard gas station and Bendickson's Hardware in Arpin. He later worked for Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools as a custodian at Rudolph Elementary School. He remained there until his retirement.
Larry enjoyed collecting antique tractors. He was a handyman who liked to work in the garage, tinkering with just about anything he could take apart and piece back together.
Survivors include his wife, Carol; four children: Arnie (Wendy) Bendickson, Vesper, WI, Karla (Chris) Peters, Wisconsin Rapids, Laurie (Brian) Burk, Oxford,WI, and Kelly (Shane Krieger) Broder, Nekoosa; ten grandchildren: Amanda (Chad) Ramthun, Ashley (Kyle) Turner, Autumn (fiancé Matt Hall) and Alison Bendickson, Trenton and Tanner Peters, Spencer and Mariah Burk, and Tyler and Evan Broder; three great-grandchildren: Kasey and Logan Ramthun and Kaden Turner; two step-great-grandchildren: Taylor and Erika Turner; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, Marvin and Arnie "Spike" Bendickson.
