Obituary of Roger John Giese

Roger John Giese, age 73, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital (Mayo) in Rochester, MN. A Celebration of Life will be held for Roger on Friday, August 5, at Hotel Mead in Wisconsin Rapids from 4:30 P.M. until 7:00 P.M., followed by a service officiated by Reverend Timothy Wenger. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is assisting the family. Roger was born November 16, 1942 to Carl and Irene (Kehrberg) Giese. He attended St. Marys' Elementary School and Assumption High School in Wisconsin Rapids. He married his loving wife Sharon (Wendt) on March 9, 1963. They were blessed with 53 years of marriage and five children. David Giese (Madison, WI), Dawn Smith (Steve), Sandra Habeck (Todd), Sheri Mertes (Greg), Paula Gross (Kurt) who all reside in Wisconsin Rapids. Pam Koski and Jennifer Nash were also considered family. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Chester, Ernest, Ralph, Melvin and one sister, Virginia. Roger was a man of great integrity and family was his greatest joy. His generosity and sense of humor touched many lives. He enjoyed bowling and sheepshead in his younger years, camping with his family, and was an avid Packers and Badgers fan. He loved attending all of his grandchildren's sporting events. Roger and his wife took numerous motorcycle trips throughout the country and snowmobiled often with friends and family. He loved old cars and enjoyed the car shows and cruises in the area. Prior to retiring, he owned and operated Economy Roofing, Inc. with his wife for over thirty years. Roger was truly loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife and their five children, twelve grandchildren, one great-grandchild, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Pugsley.
