Obituary of Hazel L. Pagel

Hazel L. Pagel, age 96, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away at her residence surrounded by her family on Friday evening, August 5, 2016. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 9, 2016, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Martin Baur will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family. Hazel was born July 27, 1920, in the Town of Sigel, Wood County, to William and Laura (Hackbarth) Scholten. She married Donald E. Pagel on October 5, 1940, at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. He preceded her in death on July 14, 2013. Hazel was employed for 25 years at the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune as a proofreader and in the classified advertising department. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and a longtime member of the church's Willing Workers group. Hazel also served on the PTA committee at St. Paul's Lutheran School. She was a former member of the VFW Auxiliary and a charter member of Homestead Golf Course. Hazel loved to golf and was an avid golfer well into her 90s. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching game shows on TV; Jeopardy, The Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune being her favorites. Hazel is survived by one son, Daniel (Calene) Pagel, Minocqua, WI; two daughters: Susan Bobrowski, Wisconsin Rapids and Cynde (Bill) Joosten, Rudolph; seven grandchildren: Kathy (Mark) Arnold, Appleton, WI; Brian (Debbie) Bobrowski, Wisconsin Rapids; Laurie (Jim) Wolff, Appleton, WI; Nathan Pagel, Waukesha, WI; Robin Pagel, Bayview, WI; Laura (Tim) Rice, Junction City; and David (fiancé Amanda) Joosten, Wisconsin Rapids; and seven great-grandchildren: Zac Wolff, Milwaukee; Dylan (fiancé Dana) Wolff, Appleton, WI; Ben Arnold, New Orleans, LA; Abby Arnold, San Antonio, TX; Makenna and Breanna Rice, Junction City; and Jackson Joosten, Wisconsin Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Donald, one sister Vivian Just, son-in-law James Bobrowski, and great-grandchild Nicholas Arnold. Memorials may be designated in Hazel's name to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church.
