Barbara Berg was born April 29, 1928 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin, one of twelve children of Joseph Sr. and Erma (Perner) Fritsche. Barbara received her education in the Wisconsin Rapids Public Schools, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1946. Barbara married Richard W. Berg of Marshfield, on November 12, 1946 in Waupaca, WI. From that day forward it was always "Dick and Barb" together working, raising a family, and enjoying each other. She was a home maker and former secretary.
Barb worked side by side with Dick, mixing the mortar for the basement for their first house on 14th Street in Wisconsin Rapids in 1953. She continued working with him on their second home on Riverwood Lane in 1956, and finally at 4th Street in Port Edwards in 1959. In 1960 she and Dick hired high school juniors to help build the cabin up north east of Fifield, which was entirely dismantled and rebuilt with help from their sons and daughter in law in 1982. From 1946 through 1987 Barb worked at several businesses in Wisconsin Rapids and at Butler Paper in Port Edwards. She took several night courses in shorthand and accounting through Mid-State Technical College to enhance her skills working as a secretary.
In addition to these activities, Richard and Barbara were active members at Immanuel Lutheran and later at Trinity Lutheran churches. Barb's spare time was spent sewing, doing needlepoint and knitting; going out for dancing with Dickie, helping plan Fritsche family reunions, doting on her grandchildren, and spending time with her family at the cabin near Fifield, WI. She also enjoyed Monday breakfasts with her dear friend Kathy Villenueve, meeting with her friends from the Stitch and Chatter group for many years, as well as having luncheons with the retired Port Edwards teachers, the Red Hat Club, the Lunch Bunch, Altar Guild at Trinity Lutheran Church and getting together with her high school pals. Barb enjoyed relaxing at her weekly appointment with Deb Krings at Deb's Hairport.
In 2005, she renewed her friendship with childhood pal Don Schill, and she spent several enjoyable trips with him and his family to their vacation home in Florida until his passing in 2011. Barb always appreciated the warm and enthusiastic reception she received from Don's sons and daughters.
Survivors include her son: John (Louise) Berg of Wisconsin Rapids; two grandchildren Marguerite (Kyle) Brown of Rifle, Colorado, and Jedidiah Berg of Wisconsin Rapids. She is survived by her sisters Marianne Kohnen and Katherine Heineck, and her brother John Fritsche. She was predeceased by her husband: Richard; son:Jeff Berg; parents as well as eight brothers and sisters.
Barbara's family would like to thank Dr. DeLasAlas and her assistant Abbi Peltier, Dr. Cardelli and his assistant Jessica Buehring, the staff and administration at Arbor View Court Memory care, and the nurses from Ministry Home Care Hospice Services for their excellent professional and compassionate personal care for Barbara.
