Obituary of Floyd Warren Pagel
After 92 years of blessings, Floyd W. Pagel's heart quit beating here in this world on Thursday, September 1, 2016 so that he could be united with his Savior in heaven. He was born on April 25, 1924, in Wonewoc, WI to the late Fred and Viva (Stull) Pagel. He and his five brothers all served their country in World War II. Floyd was a proud member of Company D, 289th Infantry, 75th Division and fought in the Campaign of the Belgian Bulge, Crossing of the Rhine and Liberation of Colmar. On November 17, 1943 he was united in marriage with Marion Hamburg in Wonewoc, WI and together they enjoyed 66 years of married life. She preceded him in death on August 1, 2010.
Floyd was employed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for 40 years, retiring in 1986 as District Real Estate Chief. He was proud of the fact that his Lord permitted him to be retired almost as many years as he worked. He enjoyed card playing, "popper" fishing, golfing with his friends, traveling, and playing cribbage and bingo at the Senior Center. Floyd was a faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church.
He is survived by seven children, David (Gloria) Pagel of Oshkosh, WI; Gene (Beth) Pagel of Bloomer, WI; Gary (Cindy) Pagel of Madison, WI; Michael (Linda) Pagel of Midlothan, VA; Randy (Karen Barraclough) Pagel of Mesa, AZ; Suzanne (Gary) Popelka of Chandler, AZ; and Lori (Steven) Erwin of Pittsburg, KS; 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and a very special friend Mary Kay Merk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, five brothers Fritz, Billy, Edward, Charles and Jack and by a granddaughter Jennifer Serchen.
