Obituary of Jean A Babcock
Jean A. Babcock, 82, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at Strawberry Lane Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 12:00 P.M. on Friday, September 16, 2016 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home. Visitation will be at 11:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday, Pastor Troy Jensen will officiate.
Jean was born October 20, 1933 in Wisconsin Rapids to Richard and Edna Schier. She graduated from Port Edwards High School in 1951. Jean married Homer (Andy) Anderson. That marriage ended with Andy's death in 1981 from lymphoma. She married Richard (Dick) Babcock in 1982 in their backyard, and in typical fashion for them, had a luau ceremony at the Royal Hawaiian to follow.
Jean worked for the Wood County Telephone Company for many years, retiring in 1987. She and Dick spent their years traveling the U.S. in their motorhome. They went on many cruises from Alaska to the Caribbean and from seeing their pictures, they were usually the life of the party. Dick and Jean certainly enjoyed life until his passing in 2011 from cancer.
Jean loved going to Goose's to shake dice and enjoyed her weekly lunches at Sportman's Pub. She was a very accomplished bowler, winning many local, state and national titles with her team. She also loved golfing. She will be remembered for her love for her dogs, Cocoa, Buffy and Prince. Those dogs were her companions and no pets could have been loved more.
Jean is survived by stepsons Bill (Jean) Babcock, Curt (Leah) Babcock of Wisconsin Rapids and step-daughter Carrie (John Radotich) Berg of Chisholm, MN. She leaves six grandkids: Amy, Luke, Crystal, David, Adam and Ryan; seven great grandkids: Cannon, Carter, Ariana, William, Eli, Madison and Hannah.
Jean was preceded in death by her husbands: Andy and Dick; parents, Richard and Edna; son, Scott Anderson; sister, Virginia and grandson Jacob.
Any memorials may be designated to the Wood County Humane Society.
Many thanks to Our House Assisted Living, Aspirus Riverview Hospital and especially the staff at Strawberry Lane Rehab Center.
