Obituary of David Scott Whitley
David Scott Whitley, age 58, passed away suddenly on June 12, 2015 in Valparaiso, Indiana.
David was born August 9, 1956 in Highwood, Illinois. He was raised in Deerfield, Illinois and graduated from Deerfield High School in 1974. David served his country with the United States Army as a medical specialist from 1976-1980. On September 14, 2002 he was united in marriage to Linda Miller in Appleton, Wisconsin.
David graduated from Fox Valley Technical College in 2007 with a degree in computer engineering. David and Linda relocated to Valparaiso, Indiana where David was employed with Furmanite America as an Industrial Valve Specialist.
David had a passion for music, guitars, Harley Davidson motorcycles, the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Blackhawks. He also had a passion for life. He was always up for going fishing with his sons, ice skating, jumping on his Harley, or spending time with his grandchildren who affectionately called him their "Poppy".
David is survived by his wife, Linda Whitley of Valparaiso, IN; three children: Jeremy (Kerry) Ringer of Wisconsin Rapids and their children Dakota and Ava, Rory (Candi) Ringer of Appleton, WI and their children Mackenzie and Carter, and Erica (Tony) Chamberlain of Las Vegas, NV and their children Evan and Sophie; sister, Jane Contis of Chicago, IL and brother, Tom (Julie) Whitley of Deerfield, IL; mother-in-law, Mabel Miller and sister-in-law, Cindy Miller both of Wisconsin Rapids. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dirk and Nancy Whitley and father-in-law James O. Miller.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, 2201 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. John Grohs will officiate. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service on Wednesday at the funeral home. Military honors will be rendered by Wisconsin Military Funeral Honors at the funeral home following the service.
David's bright spirit will be so very missed by his family and friends. At David's celebration the family wants to honor that bright spirit by wearing bright colors and big smiles.
David was able to give the gift of hope through organ donation.
