Obituary of William K Wittenberg

William K. Wittenberg, 93, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away peacefully on September 19, 2016 at his residence surrounded by family. Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Deacon James Johnston will officiate. William was born in Nekoosa, WI on April 3, 1923 to Will and Elsa (Randecker) Wittenberg. He was united in marriage to Marion Flick on May 25, 1946 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa, WI. William attended the University of Wisconsin-Madison and was a Certified Milk Tester in Dane County. After that he went on to work at Consolidated Papers, Biron Division where he worked his way up to Assistant Superintendent of the Boiler House and then retired in April of 1986. William loved square dancing and traveling across the United States to attend square dancing conventions. William and Marion traveled to Mesa, AZ during the winter for 23 years because it had the best square dancing. They also traveled to Costa Rica to visit their foreign exchange student Nora and to Turkey to visit their daughter; he enjoyed learning about different cultures. William enjoyed playing card games and was proud to have learned how to play Bridge at age 81. He praised the Lord for his wonderfully full and exciting life and he was proud to have had the ability and energy to volunteer within the church in his retirement. William is survived by his wife: Marion; two children: Barbara Woodward of Wisconsin Rapids, Beverly (William) Durant of Kiowa, CO; two grandchildren: Dr. Cassie Durant DVM of Colorado and Abby (Barry) Appleman of Colorado; three siblings: Art Wittenberg, Esther Ogilvie and Fred (Lillian) Wittenberg and friend and third daughter, Patty Ellis, North Carolina. William was preceded in death by his parents: Will and Elsa Wittenberg and Nora Sotomayer, their foreign exchange student from Costa Rica.
