Obituary of Matthew R. Kohlman
Matthew R. Kohlman, age 46, of the Town of Rome, passed away Monday, August 13, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield following a courageous battle with cancer.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 18 at First English Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Cheryl Davis will officiate. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services on Saturday at the church. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held on Friday evening at the Wisconsin Rapids Masonic Lodge. Matthew was born May 8, 1972 in Marshfield, WI to Russell and Alice (Plasky) Kohlman. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1990. Matthew then worked for Domtar Inc. as an equipment operator for many years. He attended Mid-State Technical College and graduated with a degree in welding and a degree in machine tool technology. His last job was as a machinist in Spencer.
Matthew was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to just be outside and connect with nature. Hunting, fishing, canoeing and kayaking were among his favorite activities. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle. He loved to travel and spend time at the boundary waters in northern Minnesota and anywhere along the ocean. He dreamed of visiting the Grand Canyon one day. Matthew was very mechanically inclined and used his skills to weld and fabricate things and work on cars. He was a good cook who was creative with recipes and enjoyed watching Western movies, especially those staring John Wayne.
Matthew was a Freemason and a proud member of Wisconsin Rapids Lodge #128 and Camp Douglas Lodge #272.
Matthew is survived by his parents, Russell and Alice Kohlman; sister, Christine (Robert) Frost; brothers, Daniel Kohlman and Mark Kohlman; nieces and nephews: Kyle, Alyssa, Emily, Ashley, MacKenzie, Nathan, Ethan, and Alezander; great-nieces and nephews: Kasandra, Vanessa, Gracelyn and Gabriel; some very close friends; and his faithful companion, his dog, Bear. He was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother, Stephen.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a memorial that will be established at a later date.
