Obituary of George E. Armagost
George E. Armagost, 87, of Vesper, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 22, 2017, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 8, 1930, in Freeport, Illinois, to the late Charles “Earl” and Louise (Lorenz) Armagost. On Sep. 15, 1951, his marriage to Mary Ann Bertram took place in Wisconsin Rapids.
George served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954, having earned the United National Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Korean Service Ribbon with 1 Bronze Service Star.
He worked at Paperboard Products of Consolidated Papers, Inc. for 33 years and owned and operated the Waterhole Bar with his wife from 1978 to 1999. After retirement, George drove bus for Headstart which kept a twinkle in his eyes.
His interests included hunting, fishing trips to Canada and Alaska, golfing, gardening, puzzles and he loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He hobby-farmed in the town of Sigel and was a member of the American Legion and VFW.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann of Vesper; daughters, Pamela (Richard) Koeshall of Pittsville, Peggy (Michael) Wirtz of Wisconsin Rapids, Penny (Wayne) Plawman of Vesper; son, Frederick (Dawn) Armagost of Vesper; grandchildren, Shane (Toni) Koeshall, Jessi Koeshall (Matt), Joseph Wirtz, Angela (Wesley) Krause, Gregory Plawman (Sarah), Brenda (Stephen) Onsager, Eric Plawman, Troy Plawman, Jeremy (Tonya) Armagost, Jennifer Ott, Justin (Elizabeth) Armagost; 32 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Jean Brandl, Edna Armagost and Laura (Harry) Richmond; brothers, Richard (Mary) Armagost and John (Carol) Armagost; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Marion; grandson, Jay Wirtz; and brother-in-law, Robert Brandl.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Sigel, with Pastor Doug Schalow officiating. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, and again at the church on Saturday from 10 a.m. until the time of service.
