Obituary of Chester James Oldakowski
Chester James Oldakowski, age 87, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Saturday morning, September 27, 2014 at Arborview Court in Wisconsin Rapids.
Services will be at 3:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Marty Nolet will officiate. Burial will follow at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at the funeral home.
Chester was born February 6, 1927 in Racine, WI to Ben and Martha (Jazdzewski) Oldakowski. He and Mildred Westover were united in marriage August 20, 1949 in Heffron, WI. They were blessed with eight children. Mildred preceded him in death on September 11, 1997.
He was raised on a farm in Almond, WI. One of five children, he attended school in Almond. In 1947, he went to work for American Motors, making the move to Milwaukee. Four years later, he was employed by Schlitz Brewery, later transferring to the Pabst Brewery. This was his occupation for 23 years. In 1973, Chet retired and they moved to 831 90th Street North. The wooded acreage they had purchased, while living in Milwaukee, became home.
Chet was an excellent fisherman. He enjoyed hunting and gambling. Chet loved his dog and his cat. He was a longtime friend of Bill W's.
Chet is survived by two daughters: Sandra (Robert) Calverley and Wanda Oldakowski of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; five sons: Roger Oldakowski of Streamwood, IL, Gary (Katie) Oldakowski, John (Candace) Oldakowski , Dan (Theresa) Oldakowski and Joe Oldakowski all of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; seventeen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; one sister: Jeanette McCarthy of Amherst, WI.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Mildred; one son: James; two brothers and one sister.
