Obituary of Mary Ellen Gumz

Mary Ellen Gumz, age 69, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away September 29, 2014 at Strawberry Lane Medical and Rehabilitation Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Services will be at 1:30 Friday, October 3, 2014 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Martin Baur will officiate. Entombment will be at Forest Hill Mausoleum. Visitation will be 12:00 P.M. until the time of service at the church. Mary Ellen was born on April 28, 1945 to Thorwald and Vera (Lauffenberg) Rasmussen at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, WI. She went to Ebbes grade school and graduated from Marshfield SR. High school in 1963. Mary and Roger Gumz were united in marriage on June 13, 1964 at St. Peters Church, Town of McMillan, Marshfield. She was trained at St. Joseph's Hospital to become a nurse's aid. Mary worked as a nurse's aid for Riverview Hospital in the pediatrics unit as well as the inhalation therapy department. She also worked for Health Care at Home. She was a longtime member of Saint Paul's Lutheran Church. Mary loved to spend time with her grandchildren and visiting with her family. She loved to travel. Mary was a horse enthusiast who owned her own palomino. She liked dogs and cats. Mary was an Elvis Presley Fan. She enjoyed camping. Mary is survived by her husband; three sons: Richard and Randall of Stevens Point, WI, Ronald (Julie) of Hubertus, WI; two grandsons: Nolan and Parker Gumz; one sister: Carole (David) Schalow; many other nieces and nephews; mother in-law: Verna Gumz; brother in-law: Douglas Gumz; four sisters in-law: Charolette (Jeff) Johnson, Darlene Halverson, Gloria (Dennis) Gritzal, Barb Gumz and her dear friend Margie (Pete) White. She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Gerald, James and Clarance Rasmussen; brother in-law: Gerald Gumz. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home will be assisting the family.
