Obituary of Kelley Mae Steinke
Kelley Mae Steinke, age 74, of the town of Grant, Portage County, died Tuesday Morning, November 25, 2014, at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards.
Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, December 1, 2014, at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate. Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Parish Cemetery in Kellner. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, November 30 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Monday at the church.
Kelley was born on March 13, 1940 to Harold Kelley and Jennie (Tjepkema) Sheets in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Kelley was a Lincoln High School graduate. She was united in marriage to Melvin Steinke on March 12, 1960 in Kellner. Melvin passed away on May 21, 2004. She was employed at Bob's Castle Foods in the bakery and later as manager in the deli department; she was employed there for 25 years. She was a member of the Portage County Board of Supervisors where she served on various committees, and was a Fire Warden for Portage County for 10 years.
Kelley was a very active member in the community. Kelley loved to go to different auctions, antiquing and would go to various Amish markets. She had an affinity for the Amish and all of the things that they made; she would often buy quilts from them and help support their communities. She and her family had a hobby farm. Kelley liked gardening and canning. Kelley loved to cook, bake and had an extensive cookbook collection. Kelley was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church Ladies Aid as well as the church council and bible study. She was an active member in the Grand Rapids Lions Club. She was a very loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Kelley is survived by her daughter Mary Tingblad of Minnetonka, MN; two sons: Brian (Paula) Steinke of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Steve Steinke of Wausau, WI; grandchildren: Andy Tingblad of Minnetonka, MN, Adam Steinke of Wausau, WI, Austin Steinke of La Crosse, WI, Tonya Jackson of Rochester, MN, Kayla (Brady) Reiman of Babcock, WI, Ashley and Dominique Rainville of Dexter, MN, Oscar Rainville III, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; three great grandchildren: Landon, Alayna and Braelynn.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, son Greg, granddaughter Arica Steinke, sister Shirley Klug, infant sister Judy Sheets and, aunt Ida "Tee" Tjepkema.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Kelley's name to St. John Lutheran Church or to the Wisconsin Lions Camp.
The family would like to thank the staff at Edgewater Haven and LPN Mary for the wonderful and compassionate care that they gave Kelley.
