Helminiak, Leona L.
Leona L. Helminiak, age 88, of Port Edwards passed away Thursday, December 25, 2014 at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Monday, December 29, 2014 at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Father Rolando Onden will officiate. Entombment will be at Forest Hill Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
Leona was born on February 8, 1926 in Stevens Point to Anton and Verona (Piotrowski) Kosobucki. She attended St. Stanislaus Grade School and attended Emerson High School. Leona married Chester Helminiak on August 31, 1946; they were married for 56 years before Chester passed away on April 20, 2002.
Leona enjoyed Sunday morning radio; she liked listening to polka and waltzes. Leona enjoyed traveling, playing cards, puzzles and bingo.
Leona is survived by her children: Carol (James) Krutza of Wisconsin Rapids and Dennis (Kathy) Helminiak of Wisconsin Rapids; four sisters: Angeline Smolinski of Cudahy, Grace (Rex) Thompson of Milwaukee, Antoinette (Raymond) Hancock of Wisconsin Rapids, Patricia (Joseph) Woyak of Appleton; son-in-law Kenneth Purdy of Nekoosa; six grandchildren: Kevin (Malinda) Krutza of Wisconsin Rapids, Lisa (Al) Heczko of Nekoosa, Allen Musch of Stevens Point, Tasha (Nate) Molepske of Wisconsin Rapids, Jenna (Andy) Wallin of Marshfield, John (Fiancée Carly) Weslaski Jr. of Wisconsin Rapids and eight great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Chester; daughters: Rosanne Purdy and Marilyn Weslaski; brothers: Edwin, Harry, Ben and Daniel, and son-in-law John Weslaski Sr.
