Obituary of Leonard E. Tuttle

Leonard (Len) Tuttle, age 90, of the Town of Rome, Adams County, went to be with the Lord on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Dennis Schwalenburg will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. on Tuesday and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born July 17, 1924 in the Town of Rome, Adams County, to Earl and Florence (Ross) Tuttle. He married Arlene Henke on September 6, 1947 in Black River Falls. Len's 90 years were well lived. From experiencing the first electricity brought into rural Adams County to purchasing his own electric UTV this past fall he welcomed change and technology. Preway, Inc. was Len's first place of employment as a tool and dye maker. With his wife, Arlene, he was able to open his own business; a bait shop and store on Petenwell Flowage. Over the years many of his customers became close friends. While his was a 24/7 job, he most liked the snowy mornings when he was able to sip his coffee from inside while watching other people struggle to drive to work. A graduate of Nekoosa High School, Len's first eight grades were held in a one-room country school. Two of his own children attended Chester School where he was proud to serve on the school board. He also served on the Rome Town Board and the Adams County Board of Supervisors. Len and Arlene's retirement years were full and happy ones. Thanks to Gean and George they were able to travel to a number of states and loved their many trips to Brewer games. Over the past several years Len and his brother Bob enjoyed their many breakfasts and their visits to Trail's End in New Rome. He considered the staff a second family. Len was a faithful member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Nekoosa. Len is survived by his wife of 67 years, Arlene; three daughters: Darlene Lambert of Sauk City, WI and Cynthia (William) Loken and Patricia (Jon) Sonnenberg, both of Nekoosa; five grandchildren: Cassandra (Dale) Duberstein, Amanda Lambert, Erin Lambert, Brooke Sonnenberg and Nathan Sonnenberg; five great-grandchildren: Sarah, Emily, David, Aedyn and Marek; one brother, Robert Tuttle of Nekoosa; brothers and sisters-in-law: Bea Henke, Janet Henke, David Henke, Emily Henke, Betty (Emil) Ehlert, and Gean (George) Maxwell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Lucille (Bill) Roberts; son-in-law, George Lambert; mother and father-in-law, August and Rosetta Henke; and brothers and sisters in law: Dotti Tuttle, Evelyn (Herbert) Neitzel, Lavern (Vi) Henke, Harlan Henke, Everett Henke, Dorla Henke, and August Henke Jr. We would like to extend a special thank you to Pat's Riverview family for the compassionate care. There are many stories and many memories but it would be hard to top the fact that he was such a wonderful father that his little girls DID get a pony. The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms. Deut. 33:27a
