Obituary of Delores Downing

Delores "Tootie" H. Downing, age 73, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2015 peacefully at home with her family by her side. Memorial service will be at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home. Fr. John Swing will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home. Tootie was born November 29, 1941 in Grant Township, Wisconsin to Edward and Mabel (Laging) Alft. She and Larry Allen Downing were united in marriage April 21, 1962 in Kellner. She worked in the meat department and as a bread slicer at the IGA for many years. Tootie then bartended at Idle-A-While, Square Bar, and Buzz's Bar. Tootie truly enjoyed crafting, going to casinos, playing the lottery, scratch off tickets, and "circle the word". She also liked listening to polka music especially Molly B. Tootie is survived by two children: Larry Allen (Diane) Downing Jr. of Wisconsin Rapids and Sheila (Stacy Roberts) Downing of Sheboygan; granddaughter: Nicole Phelps of Schofield; brother: Harold Alft; sisters-in-law: Marlyn Alft, Virginia Alft, Carol Alft, Mary Ann Alft , Sue Alft and Karen Mahas; brother-in-law: Gene Longpre. Many nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry Allen Downing Sr., brothers: Carl, Oscar "Bud", Lester, Jerry, Eddie Sr., Dale and Francis Alft and sisters: Margaret Longpre and Eleanor McClellan, and brother -in-law Jerry Mahas and Harold McClellan.
