Obituary of Ethel M. Kroll

Ethel M. Kroll, age 93, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Monday morning, January 19, 2015 at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 22, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Sigel. Rev. Douglas Schalow will officiate. Burial will at St. John's Lutheran Parish Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Thursday at the church. Ethel was born October 23, 1921 in the town of Sigel to Edward and Minnie (Stake) Brehm. She married William Kroll on August 5, 1944 in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2001. Ethel was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Sigel where she was baptized and confirmed. She served the church as a Sunday school teacher for 40 years and sang in the church choir. Ethel was also a member of the Lutheran Laymen's League. She liked to can pickles, bake apple pies and was famous for her cherry bar recipe. Her favorite pastime was mowing the lawn. She always had a bowl of M&M's on her kitchen table for the great grandkids and anyone else that stopped by for a visit. Ethel was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an easy going, kind, and gentle woman who enjoyed being with her family, especially the great-grandchildren. She was a very religious woman and church was very important to her, especially St. John's in Sigel. Ethel is survived by one daughter, Pat (Jim) Jackan of Wisconsin Rapids; one son, Dan (Kathy) Kroll of Wisconsin Rapids; five grandchildren: Scott (Susan) Jackan, Tim (Kate) Jackan, Jodi (Scott) Friday, Aaron (Raeanne) Kroll, and Mandie (Cory) Westpfahl; eight great-grandchildren: Brady Jackan, Nickolas Jackan, Macy Jackan, Nathan Jackan, Megan Friday, Molly Friday, Emily Friday, and Zoey Westpfahl; and one brother-in-law, Albert Heiser of Wisconsin Rapids; special friends: Ronnie Jagodzinski, Chuck Tesnow, George Radtke, and Marie Hamm; and many special nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband William, brothers and sisters: Ella (Otto) Hess, Ruth (Gilbert) Tomforde, Irene (Elmer) Dassow, Rose (Albert) Miller, Eva (Delbert) Krommenacker, Ada (Bernard) Haas, Sam (Lucille) Brehm, Edward (Gladys) Brehm, Pete (Alvina) Mueller, and Irma (Emil) Schroedel; and in-laws: Violet (Marvin) Bartos, Harvey (Marge) Kroll, and Jeannine Heiser. Memorials may be designated to St. John's Lutheran Church in Sigel.
