Obituary of Harlan E. Buss
Harlan E. Buss, age 86, of the Town of Grand Rapids, passed away Thursday morning, April 2, 2015 at Wisconsin Rapids Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Services will be at 12:00 P.M. on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. John Grohs will officiate. Entombment will take place at Forest Hill Mausoleum in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be from 10:30 A.M. until the time of services at the church on Tuesday.
Harlan was born April 1, 1929 in Wisconsin Rapids to Erwin and Mary (Rickman) Buss. He served his country during the Korean War from 1951-1953, in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Harlan married Arlette Anderson, on May 7, 1955 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were blessed with nearly 60 years of marriage.
He worked as a lab technician for Consolidated Papers from 1947-1989. Harlan was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and was an usher for over 30 years. He held many other offices at the church and school. Harlan enjoyed fishing for salmon in Lake Michigan and trout fishing in various trout streams throughout Portage County. Harlan also enjoyed deer hunting and searching for wild asparagus. He loved his family dogs.
Harlan is survived by his wife, Arlette; two children: Randy (Lisa) Buss of Wisconsin Rapids and Susan Buss of Forest Park, IL; two grandchildren: Jake Shearier of Stevens Point and Eden Buss of Forest Park, IL; sister, Marilyn Zabel of Wisconsin Rapids; and sister-in-law, Ginny Abrahamson of Green Bay.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carol Huchthausen; brother, Wayne Buss; brother-in-laws, Don Huchthausen, William "Bud" Zabel, and Bob Barton; sister-in-law, Shirley Barton; and an infant sister, Mary Louise.
