Obituary of Grace L. Allworden
Grace L. Allworden, age 89, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Tuesday morning, May 5, 2015 at Arborwood Lodge, after a five month battle with cancer.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, May 9, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards. Rev. Dan Bohn will officiate. Burial will take place in Port Edwards Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and on Saturday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service at the church.
Grace was born November 24, 1925 to Arthur and Edna (Burhite) Fairbert in Wisconsin Rapids. She spent most of her life in the central Wisconsin area, except for a year in Ashdown, Arkansas. After graduating from Lincoln High School in 1943, she worked for the United States government in Chicago. Grace worked as the school cook at Cranmoor School and in the accounting department at Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company for 10 years.
Grace married Harry Allworden on August 22, 1945. Together they loved traveling, winters in Florida, camping, and eating out. One of Grace's favorite sayings was "if the car is moving, I want to be in it."
Grace is survived by a son, Larry (Sandy Korger) Allworden of Port Edwards; a daughter, Barb Allworden of Wisconsin Rapids; a grandson, Chris (Amy Holz) Allworden; two great-granddaughters, Evelyn and Olivia; a brother, Roger (Arlene) Fairbert of Marshfield; sister-in-law, Betty Fairbert of Fredonia, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry in 2009, parents, and a brother, Gordon.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Arborwood Lodge for the wonderful care Grace received over the last year and a half. They would also like to thank Ministry Hospice for all they did for Grace and the family.
