Obituary of Carl H. Wartman

Carl H. Wartman, age 62, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Sunday, May 10, 2015 at his residence after a short illness. A memorial visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. followed by a celebration of life at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Carl was born on September 18, 1952 to Lloyd and Isabel (Reynolds) Wartman in New Brunswick, New Jersey. He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1974 and continued his education at Loyola University Law School, graduating in 1979. Carl started his legal career with McDermott, Will and Emery in Chicago, IL. He married Vicky Slater on October 9, 1983 in Chicago, IL. They were blessed with 32 years of marriage and one son. In 1989, the family moved to Wisconsin Rapids and Carl started his career with Consolidated Papers, Inc. as the General Counsel and Corporate Secretary and stayed with the company until his retirement in 2007. Carl served as a chairman of the Board of Directors for the Thiele Kaolin Company from 2011 until 2015. Carl's caring and thoughtful counsel was sought by numerous organizations. He was a member of the Incourage Board, YMCA Board, and the Riverview Hospital Foundation Board. He participated in the Noon Rotary, Men in the Kitchen, Meals on Wheels and The Neighborhood Table. Carl enjoyed swimming, kayaking, bicycling, skiing, running and motorcycling. Carl is survived by his wife Vicky Slater, son Matthew Zachary Slater Wartman, sister, Laurie (Frank) Kundrat, brothers-in-law Charles (Marsha) Slater and Richard (Kaye) Slater as well as many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Carl's favorite charities.
