Obituary of Arlene Lorraine Engelhardt
Arlene Lorraine Engelhardt, age 90, of Wisconsin Rapids, died peacefully in her sleep on Saturday morning June 13, 2015 at Arborwood Lodge.
Arlene was born May 8, 1925 in Detroit, Michigan to Neil and Kathryn (Gregor) Papineau. She grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and attended Alma College in Alma, Michigan before she married LeRoy ("Roy") Engelhardt on July 12, 1947; he passed away in 2013.
Arlene was a full-time mother and homemaker, providing loving support to her husband and three children. She was also dedicated to her community during her 48 year residency in Wisconsin Rapids, being a founding member of the Arts Council board, serving for two terms and as President; an active member of the Riverview Hospital Auxiliary; and a long time Treasurer of the Wisconsin River Garden Club, for which she received the "And Then Some" Award from the Garden Club Association for outstanding contribution. In addition she found time to be an active tennis and bridge player at Bulls Eye Country Club, a warm friend to many, and a supporter of numerous charities.
Arlene is survived by her sons, Richard Engelhardt and Douglas (Kim) Engelhardt, and daughter, K. Christine (Leslie) Littner; grandson Robert (Crystle) Engelhardt and four great granddaughters as well as her sister, Joyce Wagner of Kalamazoo and Saline, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorials be made to the Arts Council of South Wood County or to the Wisconsin River Garden Club for scholarships and local garden projects.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service.
