Jean Margaret Ticknor, age 71, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away suddenly Sunday, October 4, 2015 playing the game she loved with friends at the Wisconsin River Golf Club in Stevens Point, WI.
A memorial mass will be held at 2:00 P.M. on October 30, 2015 at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. A reception will follow the mass in the parish hall. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Jean was born at St. Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield, Wisconsin on November 3, 1943 to the late Norbert and Mary Niehaus. Jean attended St. John's Grade School and graduated from Columbus High School, Marshfield, WI. Jean married Tony Ticknor of Wisconsin Rapids on April 1, 1967. She and her husband Tony, owned and operated Ticknor Welding Supply in Wisconsin Rapids, for several years, and later sold their business.
Jean loved gardening, golfing, collecting antiques, and traveling. Six months ago she took a long desired trip to Europe to visit her grandparent's homeland of Austria and Germany, along with three other countries. She especially enjoyed taking her grandchildren (Ray and Julia) on interesting and educational trips annually.Over the years Jean developed many wonderful friendships through her church and the numerous groups in which she was involved. Jean's love of the game of golf took her to many courses throughout central Wisconsin. She held a previous membership at Lake Arrowhead Golf Association, and was a current member of the women's golf league at the Ridges in Wisconsin Rapids. She was a well known past participant of the Women's Channel 7 Golf Invitational and enjoyed golfing with her brothers as well. She also enjoyed her various Bridge Clubs as well as the Central Wisconsin Network group.
She is survived by her three children: Leann Ticknor, Black Mountain, NC, Kathy Ernst (Mike) Wisconsin Rapids, WI; and Mark Ticknor (Sandi) Stevens Point, WI, and grandchildren Ray and Julia Ernst. Jean's surviving siblings are: Ken (Gail) Niehaus, Dan (Martha) Niehaus, and Ray Niehaus of Marshfield, John (Pam) Niehaus of Hewitt and Nancy (Dale) Demary of AuSable Forks, NY.
Jean is predeceased by her father Norbert Niehaus 1994, mother Mary Niehaus (Bock) 2009, sister Alice See (Niehaus) 2004 and brother Robert Niehaus in 2009.
